A man in his 20s was rushed to hospital in life-threatening condition after a shooting in Etobicoke early Friday, Toronto police and paramedics say.

The shooting happened in a parking area near the entrance to a highrise condo complex on Eva Road, near The West Mall and Burnhamthorpe Road. Emergency crews were called to the scene at 12:47 a.m.

When police arrived, they found a man lying on the ground, unresponsive and suffering from gunshot wounds. Toronto paramedics took him to a local hospital in an emergency run.

Sgt. Alan Bartlett, of Toronto police's 22 Division, told reporters at the scene that police are searching for witnesses and evidence.

“It's an active crime scene,” Bartlett said on Friday.

Police have taped off the entrance way to the complex as they investigate.

Officers canvassed the area early Friday for security camera video. Bartlett said officers were expected to canvas people who live in the complex later on Friday morning.

“The indications are that whoever was involved in this shooting may have left the area in a vehicle,” Bartlett said.

According to police in a tweet, a white car was seen chasing a black car out of the area.

Police have taped off the crime scene as they investigate. Next of kin is being notified.

No description of a suspect was available.
