Chandulal Gandhi, 83, has been found dead after he was reported missing last week, Toronto Police say.
An 83-year-old man who was reported missing last week has been found dead, Toronto Police said Sunday.
Police said Chandulal Gandhi's body was found without vital signs earlier this afternoon in the Claireville conservation area in Brampton. The body was discovered in a “remote” area that was not easily accessible.
“Unfortunately, the area he was found in was a very swampy area that would not have been accessible to anybody walking by or even to see him,” said Supt. Ron Taverner from the 23 Division Command site, Sunday evening.
“We found other evidence that linked us this afternoon to where he might be.”
Gandhi was last seen on Tuesday at 5 p.m. in the Kipling Avenue and Steeles Avenue West area.
A few days after he was reported missing, police set up a command post at 23 Division and released a video of Gandhi to aid in their search.
There were some possible sightings of Gandhi in the west end of Brampton, police said, but they do not know what his travel route was.
Gandhi's death appears to be a result of exposure and there are no indications of foul play. It is unclear how long he had been dead for, but police said those details will be revealed after the autopsy.
His family has been notified.
“It was a very exhaustive search. We had many, many resources working on trying to find Mr. Gandhi, but unfortunately, it did not work out the way we wanted,” said Taverner.
Gandhi was reported missing just one day after another senior, 98-year-old Leonard Simpson, from the same area went missing as well. Simpson was located a few days ago.
