Goldin Auctions announced Friday they've pulled a Michael Strahan Super Bowl XLII jersey off the auction block after the former New York Giants defensive end questioned its authenticity.

Darren Rovell of the Action Network provided the company's full statement:

After battle with Michael Strahan over Super Bowl jersey authenticity, @GoldinAuctions has pulled the item from his auction. Jersey looks like it was pulled because Strahan created potential buyer doubt. Goldin asserts they, not Strahan, still have the right jersey. https://t.co/mN22uxb8BR

Strahan claims the actual jersey he wore Feb. 3, 2008, when the Giants scored a 17-14 upset over the previously undefeated New England Patriots, remains framed in his home, per TMZ Sports.

The jersey, which was projected to attract bids over $100,000, has a disputed chain of ownership.

TMZ reported Strahan claims he handed it to a friend immediately after the game, got it back at his hotel room and that it has stayed in his possessions ever since. Goldin Auctions alleges the jersey went from the Giants' equipment manager to another person and then into their sale.

Either way, the lack of clarity has led to the auction's cancellation.

Strahan recorded three total tackles, a sack and a pass defended in the Giants' Super Bowl triumph 12 years ago.

The 48-year-old Houston native, who currently works on ABC's Good Morning America and Fox Sports' NFL coverage, was just as surprised as everyone else about the result that night.

“We didn't do it to prove you wrong,” Strahan told reporters after the Super Bowl. “We did it to prove to ourselves we could do it. We were stopping the best offense in football. Of course, they were surprised. We shocked the world. We shocked ourselves.”

Along with the title, the standout defender's career resume included seven Pro Bowl appearances, four first-team All-Pro selections and the 2001 Defensive Player of the Year Award. He retired in June 2008, four months after the Giants' victory over the Patriots.

Strahan was inducted in the Pro Football Hall of Fame as part of its 2014 class.
