A Pennsylvania man named Michael Daily scammed Baltimore Ravens tight end Hayden Hurst to receive game-used jerseys he then tried to sell online, according to TMZ Sports.
According to the police, Daily posed as former MLB pitcher Tim Lincecum on Twitter—apparently including a verified blue checkmark—and asked Hurst for signed memorabilia for a charity donation.
The tight end obliged the request and mailed two jerseys, including one from his best career game against the Buffalo Bills.
“My guy! 12/9/19 game used, 3 rec 73 yards 1 TD,” the inscription read.
The 2018 first-round pick only has three career regular-season touchdowns, and the December win over Buffalo was the first time he topped 50 yards in a game.
It was Hurst’s agent who discovered the scam when he saw the jerseys for sale online.
Daily has been charged with identity theft, theft by deception and unlawful use of a computer, per TMZ. Authorities also discovered he had used different accounts to fool other athletes to send memorabilia, including a WWE championship belt.
