The Philadelphia Eagles agreed to a one-year contract with running back Corey Clement on Wednesday, further bolstering an already loaded depth chart at the position.
Clement was limited to four games in 2019 before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury. He did not record a carry or a reception, playing mostly on special teams.
Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philly reported the deal is for Clement's veteran minimum of $825,000. It's unlikely much (if any) of the deal is guaranteed.
The Eagles now have six running backs on their depth chart. With Miles Sanders and Boston Scott essentially guaranteed roster spots, Clement will battle with Elijah Holyfield, Michael Warren and Adrian Killins when (or if) camp opens. Warren and Killins were undrafted free-agent pickups earlier this month, while Holyfield signed with the Eagles in December after spending the 2019 season on the Panthers‘ practice squad.
Clement likely has a leg up on the remainder of group, given his familiarity with Doug Pederson's system and special teams experience. Players with professional experience will become invaluable if the coronavirus pandemic forces the NFL to shorten or wipe out training camp entirely.
Clement also flashed a little bit as a runner in his first two seasons, recording 580 yards and six touchdowns while averaging 4.1 yards per carry.
