More than $500,000 worth of drugs and cash have been seized and a man faces more than a dozen charges after police searched two Calgary residences, Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams said Thursday.

More than $500,000 worth of drugs and cash have been seized and a man faces more than a dozen charges after police searched two Calgary residences, Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams said Thursday.
The homes searched Jan. 23 are located in the northwest community of Panorama Hills and the southeast neighbourhood of Queensland, said a release from ALERT, an umbrella agency made up of officers from law enforcement teams across the province to combat organized and serious crime.
The cash found at the Calgary residences totalled $90,425, ALERT said, while the substances included:
- 2,340 grams of methamphetamine.
- 903 grams of fentanyl.
- 212 grams of cocaine.
- 912 grams of a cocaine buffing agent.
- 6,103 grams of cannabis.
- 304 cartons of contraband tobacco cigarettes.
Pistols, shotguns also seized
Two shotguns and two pistols were also seized, ALERT said.
Insp. Shawn Wallace told the CBC that the firearms would undergo forensic analysis to determine whether they had been used in crimes in North America.
“We'll see if [the guns are] related to any other criminal activity,” Wallace said.
Charges include drug trafficking, fraud
To Sang Wong, 56, has been charged with:
- Four counts of drug trafficking.
- Three counts of possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking.
- Possession of illegal tobacco for sale.
- Fraud.
- Possession of the proceeds of crime.
- Unsafe storage of a firearm.
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm.
- Possession of a weapon obtained by crime.
ALERT's investigation involved the co-ordination of teams in both Calgary and Medicine Hat.
“This is a great example of how our ALERT teams share intelligence and provide coverage across the entire province to stamp out complex organized crime threats,” Wallace said.
ALERT encouraged members of the public who suspect drug or gang activity in their community to call their local police service.
