A series of new features are coming to the MyTEAM game mode in NBA 2K21, and all progress will be saved for gamers who transition from the current generation of consoles, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, to the next generation, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, when they're released later in 2020.
Visual Concepts, the video game's developer, provided a look at some of the changes to MyTEAM on Friday. Most notably, there will now be seasons as a way to push out fresh content throughout the year and they will be free to play.
Competitive players can take part in the new MyTEAM Limited Mode. Each weekend (Friday through Sunday) there will be a championship ring available, and everybody who obtains the complete collection of rings during a given season will earn the best set of rewards at season's end.
Unlimited Mode also returns to MyTEAM for another year with a rebuilt structure. There are now nine leagues to conquer before completing the mode.
NBA 2K21 will also receive one of its most intriguing additions to date for MyTEAM in the form of the IDOL Series Collection, with cards featuring some of the greatest players in history. Those will debut beginning in September.
The developer has also created an area called The Exchange, where players can trade in cards they aren't going to use in hopes of adding more valuable pieces to their collection.
Finally, the MyTEAM badge system has once again been reworked with new customization options, including different evolution paths for players to create a more unique and varied set.
NBA 2K21's demo will be released on the current-gen consoles and Nintendo Switch on Monday.
The game's full worldwide release date is Sept. 4, and it will be available on the next-gen consoles after those become available during this year's holiday season.
