Calgary police say they have charged three suspects in a fatal shooting in the city's southeast on Tuesday that left one man dead.
Calgary residents Joseph Chlala, 19, and Troy Lemke, 35, along with a 15-year-old male from Ottawa, have all been charged with first-degree murder. The 15-year-old male cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
The victim has been identified as 32-year-old Edmonton resident Christian Navos.
The shooting took place at about 3:50 p.m. in a park near the intersection of Legacy Parade and Legacy Lane S.E. Police were dispatched after local residents reported a person in a vehicle had been shot.
Police responded to the scene and were able to track and quickly apprehend the suspects using the police HAWCS helicopter.
“We are very relieved no innocent bystanders were injured during the incident. This reckless disregard for the welfare of our citizens is not acceptable,” said homicide unit Staff Sgt. Martin Schiavetta in a release.
“Thanks to HAWCS, we were able to quickly locate the suspects and take them into custody, thereby preventing subsequent violence and destruction of crucial evidence.”
Police said they believe the incident was targeted and was connected to a dispute involving drugs.
