Report: Andrew Nembhard to Withdraw from 2020 NBA Draft, Transfer from Florida

Florida Gators guard Andrew Nembhard is reportedly set to withdraw from the 2020 NBA draft and will seek a transfer to a new school before the 2020-21 college basketball season.

Jeff Goodman of Stadium reported the update Saturday and noted Nembhard will likely be “pursued heavily by other high-major schools.”

Nembhard joined the Gators as a 5-star prospect in the 2018 recruiting class.

The 20-year-old Canadian is coming off a solid sophomore season at Florida. He averaged 11.2 points, 5.6 assists and 3.0 rebounds across 31 appearances (all starts) for the 19-12 Gators.

His shooting efficiency is a concern, though. He made just 42.8 percent of his field-goal attempts, including 32.7 percent from three-point range, in 67 total games at UF.

In March, Nembhard told Aaron Rose of Sports Illustrated the coronavirus pandemic was having a significant impact on his future planning.

“I think it's affecting guys a lot because there is so much uncertainty,” he said.

He wasn't generating much buzz heading into the draft process, which likely played a role in his decision to stay in school for at least another season.

Nembhard didn't crack the latest 50-player big board from Bleacher Report's Jonathan Wasserman in mid-May and wasn't listed in the most recent two-round mock draft by NBADraft.net.

All told, his raw skill set is evident and matches his highly touted ranking coming out of Montverde Academy in Florida two years ago. He's still very much in the development stage, though.

Another year or two of college basketball to answer the questions about whether he can drop the “volume scorer” label should bolster his NBA outlook and perhaps make him a first-round pick.
