Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante is set to unveil her strategy to reboot the city's economy, which has ground to near-halt due to the COVID-19 outbreak that has so far killed 741 residents, sickened thousands more, and left many businesses in ruins.
Accompanied by Coun. Benoit Dorais, chair of the city's executive committee, the mayor is scheduled to make a presentation at 3 p.m., to be carried live here.
Plante has said she wants the city to emerge from the pandemic “even stronger” than before, but she acknowledges there is a difficult path ahead.
“The challenges in terms of public transit and the management of public spaces are the greatest,” she said recently.
As the Quebec government plans to gradually scale back confinement measures across the province, Plante has said the process may go a bit differently in Montreal, due to the dense urban environment.
“We really want to bring together the winning conditions so the deconfinement is safe,” Plante said.
