Three workers at the Midtown Co-op location in Calgary have tested positive for COVID-19, according to a release.
Co-op learned of the cases from Alberta Health over the weekend, carrying out an overnight deep clean disinfection as a result.
“At this time, there is no evidence that these cases were contracted within the store,” reads a statement attributed to Calgary Co-op CEO Ken Keelor.
Each of the employees last worked at the location on April 12 in the produce, meat and grocery sections of the store. All three recognized their symptoms and self-isolated, according to Keelor.
“Calgary Co-op is working with AHS on all appropriate steps to ensure the ongoing safety of our team members and members,” Keelor said. “At this time, the possible risk of transmission to the public is low and the disinfection of the store was taken as a precautionary measure.”
The opening of the Midtown location was delayed until 11 a.m. Sunday morning. With physical distancing in place, a lineup on Sunday stretched around the building.
A sign posted near the front of the store informed customers that the store would be taking temperatures of staff and customers before they entered the building.
